We are very excited this year to be offering PBL students a whole new SLC experience. Similar to those who have participated in the Institute for Leaders at the National Leadership Conference, we have developed three defined "paths" which will navigate the student experience. Listed on the "Workshop Path Information" tab are the three "paths" we are offering at this year's event, taught by real professionals in the business industry! As we speak, we continue to book top-notch speakers for these topics. Be sure to check out the speakers we have booked and check back frequently as we continue to finalize plans with others!
Some of the big events for SLC weekend include:
- Competitive events – events will be running throughout the weekend. We will recognize our award winners at the Saturday evening banquet. Further competitive events information can be found at the "Competitive Events Information" link.
- State Officer elections – we will crown our new State Officer Team during SLC weekend. Be thinking now about running for an office! Additional info can be found at the "State Officer Information" link.
- Friday night social – the social is set! This year's event will be held at Takanami, a local sushi restaurant/bar in downtown Iowa City. Light appetizers of chicken strips with BBQ, potato wedges, veggie/cheese trays, and sushi rolls will be served. If you've never had sushi before, this is your opportunity! The social will give all students a chance to mingle with people from other chapters. A few notes on the social: 1.) All drinks are on your own for this event, including non-alcoholic. Pop is $2, Beer $4, and wines range from $9/glass-$20+. 2.) Students will be ID'd with wristbands provided when you arrive. 3.) This is not intended to be a full meal - light appetizers only. Please be respectful of other students who have not yet arrived and eaten before entering the line a second time. 4.) A listing of "after hour" ideas will be provided by UI students. These ideas will be for times after the social is complete and are completely optional. For more information on the venue for our Friday social, check out Takanami's website (http://www.takanamifusion.com/).
- Friday/Saturday workshops – see below!
- Friday speaker – we were lucky enough to secure Jim Lemoine, former PBL National President, business professional and speaker as our Friday speaker. Jim has spoken at Iowa PBL events in the past to much acclaim. Please refer to the "Jim Lemoine Information" link for additional background on Jim!
- Saturday networking event - see below!
- Saturday evening banquet/dinner/awards - Iowa SLC participants will enjoy a formal dinner at the University Athletic Club from 4-8 on Saturday. Don't miss this exciting event geared toward celebration of a fantastic year in PBL plus the presentation of competitive event plaques! In addition, several of the participating employers from the networking event will also be in attendance! For more information on the venue for our event, check out the University Athletic Club website! (http://www.uac-ic.com/)
On Saturday morning, Iowa PBL is hosting a networking event for students and Iowa companies. This event will host a variety of business professionals in a structured learning environment about networking, followed by a guided networking event with these companies! The networking event will provide students the opportunity to enjoy a "mock drink" and network in a room of Iowa business professionals. In addition, Iowa PBL is providing each submitted student resume to this pool of business professionals! We hope that by providing resumes, potential employers and students have some great things to talk about...and who knows...perhaps you will receive a phone call from that employer for an interview later!
BREAKING NEWS: we have confirmed Ernst & Young, Rockwell Collins, John Deere, St. Ambrose University, RK Dixon, Hormel Foods, Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, HNI Corporation, and AEGON USA for this event thus far!
Attached is the final schedule for the weekend!
