Below are the three paths being offered at this year's SLC. Please remember - you will select your path at registration and follow that same series of workshops throughout the weekend. Register early to ensure you get the desired path!
Financial Responsibility Path
There certainly are a lot of things to know when graduating from college, not the least of which is how to manage your money. Unfortunately, even students who graduate with a degree in accounting or finance may not know the nuts and bolts about how to prepare for their financial future. This path will focus on some of the known’s and unknown’s of the “real world” from experts in the financial services world. This path will cover some, if not all of the following topics: credit & your life, identity theft & fraud, personal budgeting, investing, and debt & loans, including student debt. Feel free to bring your own personal financial situations with, as you work through possible scenarios with the experts
Career Preparedness Path
Why do you go to college? To put together a skill set to begin a career, right?! This “path” will guide you along the do’s and don’ts of how you prepare for a career, whether it be in business or another field. This “path” will cover some, if not all, of the following topics: pre-career tips, resumes & cover letters ideas, interviewing tips & tricks, a business panel on what business professionals wished they’d learned in school, current business events, selecting the right career path, etc. This “path” will be hands on – so bring your current resume/cover letter and have it analyzed by a professional in the business world! Also, bring your best suit – you’ll be interviewed during this session as well!
Business Soft Skills Path
Perhaps one of the most lacking skills taught in the classroom today are soft skills. More and more, students are coming out of school with very strong technical skills, but it’s those smaller “unspoken” rules that just aren’t covered in a textbook. This path will focus preparing you for your years beyond college by raising awareness and teaching perhaps the most important skill of all – soft skills! This path will cover some, if not all of the following topics: business ethics, verbal/non-verbal communication, interpersonal communication, dressing for success, business writing, self-promotion, and negotiation skills. Be prepared – we’re not teaching theory here! You’ll not only learn, but practice what you’ve been taught!
